Waking up at 3:30 AM to drive 30 minutes isn’t my favorite thing…but that trip gets substantially better when it’s to drive to the airport!
I’m finally sitting at the gate (yes, I actually am sitting at the gate as I type this – with my laptop plugged into an outlet on the wall) getting ready to take off for one of my favorite places in the world: Costa Rica. I’m flying into San Jose, then taking a bus to Arenal for a few days with a friend that’s flying down from the States to hang out with me on the first leg of my trip. After that, I’m hopping a bus to San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. After that – I have no idea what I’m doing! I know broadly that I want to visit Guatemala and Belize next, but I have no set plans.
And it’s fucking fantastic!
It’s a little bittersweet that the States portionof my trip is over. After all, six months ago when I quit my job to travel full-time, I started in the States specifically because I wanted to see my own country – despite living here my entire life, I had only really spent time between Florida and New York! I also wanted to give myself time to learn to live and work on the road.
After traveling through Florida, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Michigan and back to Florida – I feel like I didn’t see nearly enough of the States and now I’m heading out! It’s also sad to leave family and friends – last time, I knew I’d be coming back home soon because I had several obligations I needed to keep my commitment to them. This time, I’m not sure when I’ll be back or if I’ll ever be back in Orlando (my family is in Fort Myers, which is also where my pup is right now, so I’ll head back there but maybe not my home city for the past few years). So it’s a mix of sad and really, really, really excited!
Of course, I plan to keep everyone updated about my journeys – see you in Costa Rica!
